Today we are at the Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Game Reserve, a 90 minute drive from our dock in Richards Bay. A cold drizzle is falling. We were given heavy oilcloth ponchos to wear in the open-sided, 4 wheel drive safari vehicles. Was it only yesterday that we were complaining about feeling too warm?
Most of the animals were in the bushes, avoiding the rain, but we saw a few---some graceful giraffes,

A very wet elephant,

And a rare African Painted Dog.

Our guides talked about the animals and people of the region, about apartheid and poaching and progress and economics. A long, interesting day. A lot to think about.
