Visiting Bali

Day 56/Bali, Indonesia
We got off to a late start here, because a big ferry boat had taken our parking space at the port of Benoa. But Bali was worth waiting for. By 9:30 am we were on our way, on a bus that was spotless but made for folks with shorter legs than ours. As our driver threaded the bus through incredible traffic jams, we began to understand why buses need to be short and slender here. When we finally reached our first stop, we were led to shaded seats in an outdoor theater. And what a spectacle we were treated to:

A magical pantomime drama, accompanied by a gamelan orchestra, in an outdoor setting.

Some little boys sitting on the sidelines were even more enchanted than we were.

At other stops we saw woodcarvings

And art work

We got back to the ship just in time to get ready for an onboard party. More about this in the next blog entry.

This port was a special stop for many of our crew members who call Indonesia home. There were many happy reunions as families arrived to spend time with their loved ones.

We loved what we saw of Bali, and would love to be able to come back and spend more time.
