Namibia, Last Stop In Africa

Day 96/Walvis Bay, Namibia

So few days left! And so much yet to see.
Now we have rounded the Cape of Good Hope and crossed the invisible line between the Indian Ocean and the Atlantic.
We spent a few days at Capetown, South Africa, but so far have only one picture to show you (technical difficulties)

This is Table Mountain, famous backdrop to the Capetown skyline. It is often covered with a "tablecloth" of cloud. We were lucky to capture it during a fog free moment.

We have had two days in Namibia, two wonderful tours.

The first tour took us to the port town of Walvis Bay. We saw flocks of flamingoes, miles of unspoiled beach. The first European settlers here were from Germany. The architecture shows a German influence, but there are also thatched roofs that borrow their style from the native cultures.

Sorry about the tilted photo. It was snapped at arm's length, through the window of a moving bus.

From Walvis Bay we drove through desert landscapes to the town of Swakopmund. German is spoken here in the shops and on the streets.

We strolled around town, admiring the African art displayed in the shops while eating ice cream from a German cafe.

Coming soon! The next episode of our Namibia adventures. Our onboard computer system works better if blog postings are short.
